Joanne Surman
Joanne Surman is an award-winning children’s author-illustrator based in Warwick, UK. She won the Best Picture Book award at the Stratford Literary Festival. Joanne holds a Master’s degree with Distinction in Illustration and worked as a graphic designer for many years. Her books have sold all over the world.
Her illustration is characterised by a soft, atmospheric style using colour to create warm, cosy worlds that invite the viewer in. Colour and light play a central role in shaping the mood of her work.
Deeply inspired by nature, Joanne finds joy in quiet, everyday moments outdoors and has a great love of animals (especially dogs), both of which sit at the heart of her visual storytelling. She creates gentle, narrative-led imagery with an emotional depth that resonates with both children and adults.
